I decided to see if there was a mod for DualShock buttons. Incidentally, I seem to have solved my issue. During one quest, I was using a thunder weapon, an ally was using a thunder insect glaive, and Legiana was going wild with the frost attacks. I was having some issues with thunder weapons plus Legiana's frost attacks.
